the battleship albertine by nicolas-gouny-art the battleship albertine by nicolas-gouny-art
To my dad.

I made this drawing for the retirement of my father.
So far I remember, he has always got a deep fascination for cinema...

that's a really cool perspective. and i like the characters in this, especially the crying monster (i guess because he stands out the most).
does your dad make films? he looks like nice dad judging from this drawing

no... he'd like making films, and now he'll maybe have some time to do it...

the monster is crying, because the fairy splited with him, because he broke her heart (that's a melodramatic story)

I  the maroon colour you used for the walls... it's like wine, very rich. And the detail is wonderful, you can really see the action!

oh yes, like wine, i didn't think to that, but i like it... i wanted dark colors, for the contrast with poster, and faded colors to give a past aspect :)

Oui, the wine gives it a feeling of the past too, works very nicely with the black&white.

I was a real fan of Alexander Rodchenko the russian photograper and graphic designer when I studied Graphics at University!!! I thought I recognised the reference from somewhere!

the poster is inspired by the battleship Potemkine (by Eisenstein), from the same period... i try to do the same letters, and use some pure colors...

so, your reference is very good :aww:

Potemkine (and Albertine is the name of my cat, that's a silly words play)
